I dont have a gun! Stop shooting! - the last words spoken by Michael Brown, an eighteen-year-old teenager. A statement of fact and a plea. The fact should have been obvious to the trained officer to whom it was spoken. The plea was for his life. Both were ignored. A young man is dead. But he stole some cigars. Maybe; maybe not. Hell never get his day in court now. He went for the officers gun. Again, maybe and maybe not. If he did, he didnt get the gun. He was unarmed when he was shot multiple times, including fatal shots to the head. Self-defense doesnt apply when your assailant is pleading for his life. Maybe Michael Brown did not cooperate with the officer as he should have, and, if so, there should have been an accounting for his behavior. Surely, though, there was an accountability somewhere short of being shot to death in the street.
