I dont imagine that it was coincidence that the Workplace Gender Equality Agency released its comprehensive review of gender data on White Ribbon Day. Women are still regular victims of both domestic violence and workplace discrimination in Australia. WGEA reports that women comprise just 26.2% of the top three levels of management hierarchy, earn nearly 25% less than men for the same job and only 7.1% of organisations have a standalone overall gender equality strategy. As this dataset indicates employers are not taking a strategic approach to gender equality, the Agency has also launched a ground breaking methodology for building a gender strategy. WGEA will work in consultation with employers to build gender strategies that measurably support the organisation’s corporate strategy so that gender equality is appropriately and inextricably integrated into core business practices. Well done WGEA, now for some change!!!
