I dont know how many people remember the Movie... Devadaasu Mallee Puttaadu.. ..though the movie title card says that it has been written by a famous Director !. But OUR FAMILY knows that it has been written by Our Maternal Uncle...Sri Sanagavarapu Bala Subrahmanyam. Now he has passed away last Saturday in Nellore. He was a popular writer and also worked as a journalist in AJ and other news papers of that time. He also started a Evening Paper in Tirupati with good readership. He has published many novels, Stories, plays which won him accolades and awards. His works that became popular are నవలలు: దేవదాసు బతికాడు, బహుదూరపు బాటసారి, పోలీస్ – టెర్రరిస్ట్, దాహం దాహం, అగ్నికణం, తలాక్ తలాక్, గీతాసారం, ఈ దేశం (గేయ కావ్యం), శ్రీ కృష్ణ అస్వత్తామ సంగ్రామం. నాటిక. కథలు: బంధం, రేషన్ కార్డు, అతడు ఆమె ప్రేమ, కొండ గుర్తులు, కాటికాపరి. He worked as writer (rather a ghost writer..!) for many popular writers of his days (తను బ్రతువు తెరువు కోసం ఘోస్ట్ రైటర్ అయ్యాను అని తనే చెప్పుకున్నాడు). Apart from his novels which always tend to go to the extreme leftism, he had a brief tryst in the early seventies with it too..!! I dont know the reason, but many of his stories and Novels had a tragic ending depicting the vagaries of life. One story depicts a Medical College Professor, who neglects his mother and joins her in a Old age home. The professor while explaining the body parts to his students using a dead body, discovers that the body is none other than his Mother..! The poet Jwala Mukhi wrote a foreword to his Anthology Bandham where he mentioned that Balu is a writer with conscious “గీతాసారం రాసి గీతకు నవలా రూపం ఇచ్హాడు” and quipped that “ధూర్త, తెలుగు సినిమాల్లో తెర వెనుక వాడుకోబడ్డాడు, తెర వెనుక తెరచి రాజయ్యాడు.”. He wrote with different pen names, Balu, Vamsi, S. Kalasagar, S.
