I dont know how this vote will go but I feel compelled to let you all know that nothing has changed. I am a special ed resource teacher for senior students with moderate to severe behavior and/or mental health issues. I will start this year with 19 students and 1 assistant. The last time I had these numbers was in 2001 and I was given 2 assistants. The mental health issues facing youth today are far more severe and debilitating than they were all those years ago, yet I am supposed to manage these fragile young human beings with tremendously fewer resources. I love my job and I am dedicated to the success of my students but I am fearful and full of doubt that I will be able to meet their increasingly complex needs. No matter what happens, please do not let this struggle be forgotten. The kids of today are ALL of our future and they deserve the best that a humane society can provide for them.
