I dont know how true this is - As streaming services like Netflix explode in popularity, many analysts say the writing is on the wall for broadcast TV. - But we are now watching Netflix which gives us more control over content and do not miss the commercials. I have grown a kind of contempt for broadcast TV/networks based on the so called entertainment they provide and more so because the lack of journalism in their news broadcasts. I stopped listening to local radio some time ago choosing Sirius XM where I listen to music I want by decade and new on BBC Radio. Stopped buying newspapers years ago so I dont know if this is representative but the change is on. Tonight we received a call from Montreal from a couple planning a 2 week vacation in the Caribbean, they said they watched about 50 of our videos on YouTube and do not want commercials on the resorts, they trust us and YouTube. Great honor and responsibility, I will work with them to find the right destination and resort. At the same time as our world has changed governments throw money at ad campaigns like theres no tomorrow. Ive put in freedom of information requests in BC and wrote to the premiers office to find out how much our government is spending on tourism marketing in the old form. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your email has been forwarded to me from the Premier’s office to answer your questions. Destination British Columbia’s annual operating budget of approximately $51 million is provided by the government of BC and our responsibility includes promoting BC as a tourism destination in key North American and international markets. The total brand development budget including consumer research costs, brand strategy, creative development, brand guidelines for industry, image and video production, right and assets is $2.6 Million. Total of 41/2 minutes. I am following this up with a request for accounting and cost break down. Location, crew, editing, transportation costs etc. this is our money being thrown around and they have to be accountable to the taxpayers. To many $16 glass of orange juice and other abuses. $2.6 million is a ridiculous amount.
