I dont know if Big Jon is serious about pulling the plug, but allow me, in the meantime, to shout a bit about something thats been irritating me. A week ago I saw the film Written by Mrs Bach, which asserts that Anna Magdalena composed a number of JSBs works, including most of the cello suites and, at least, the first prelude of the 48. It was interesting - and mostly plausible. Nevertheless, I was greatly irritated to hear, yet again, during the course of the film that most organists accept that J L Krebs wrote the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. J L Krebs DID NOT write BWV 565. This is something that is only claimed by people who know nothing about J L Krebs. BWV 565 does not look, sound or feel anything like J L Krebs. Neither is there (as far as Im aware - and I am prepared to be corrected) a single scrap of historical evidence, beyond sheer fantasy and broad speculation, to support this claim. Amongst other pieces not penned by J L Krebs are the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues (although I believe he may have written one, possibly two of them). End of shouting.
