I dont know if any of you have heard about the latest bit of bureaucracy from Camden - but it does have implications for anyone who does indulge in busking or street theatre of any kind. I value the fact that in this country you are able to perform in the street and thoroughly enjoy that we encourage this kind of colourful behaviour to brighten up our cities...Im not in favour of violent protests - but the idea of a rather noisy way of voicing your feeliings does appeal... however, Im not in London on the dates mentioned but if anyone reading this is able to get along, then please go and blow a kazoo on my behalf! Dear friends and supporters: From Monday 24th March Camden Council have announced their intention to begin enforcement of their anti-busking law which turns singing in the street for fun into a potentially criminal offence. This week, our legal team lodged an application with the Court of Appeal. Our legal challenge continues but meanwhile we thought we would celebrate Camdens enforcement of the busking law with another outing of the Citizens Kazoo Orchestra. Meanwhile we are advising all buskers NOT to sign up for Camdens Coercive license scheme under any circumstances. You will only be encouraging them! Religious processions and protest marches (or similar) are exempted from the requirement to hold licenses to busk, and so, in a fit of righteous fervour we have formed the The Holy Church of the Kazoo and will be holding our first religious protest busk on Monday 24th with a 1pm meeting for a 2pm outing on the streets of Camden outside HSBC near the tube station. Mark Thomas will be helping us draw up a list of well loved religious tunes from all faiths and none so that we can celebrate our religious freedom in a musical way. You can join the event via this Facebook link: https://facebook/events/417081838427421 For those of you who cant make it on Monday there is another protest busk planned by Meet and Jam on Sunday 23rd again outside HSBC from 2pm. Bring an instrument and strum a chord for justice... https://facebook/events/1511847325709032/ If you wish to contribute towards our ongoing fund-raising campaign for the Court of Appeal challenge you can do so via this link: indiegogo/projects/keep-streets-live-uk/x/2921332
