I dont know it is right or wrong but I am copying a latter from an environment activist Ms. Maureen to a wider group including me, It shows our collective behavior and attitude towards the things as important as breathing ............................. I have written a book on my travels Journey to Jalalabad which was published here in Pakistan some years ago, but what is perhaps more relevant to the present day is that a few months back on my return to Birir, after the winter break, when I and my family come down here for the winter, I left Birir to return to my office here in Peshawar. When I reached Gahiret Bridge (which incidentally I repaired back in 2006), I was shocked to see that the army which had taken over the nearby fort, had built four latrines RIGHT NEXT TO THE BRIDGE!!!! - THIS BRIDGE SHOULD BE MADE INTO A HISTORIC SITE - and all this effluence was pouring down the cliff face into the river below. The cliff looked horrendous and all that effluence is contaminating the river, from which people still drink. Immediately without thinking other than as a photographer, I took out my camera and took a photo, but without filming the army trucks or anything. The army guy at the check post saw me and came up to me and said it was not allowed and I apologized, remembering this was a no no. So, I guess that is why they might think I am a spy!!!! Please someone talk to the Corp Commander in Chitral and someone talk to the Corp Commander in Peshawar. Incidentally, I tried to call Zain at the fort who has visited my house in Birir to tell him I was shocked and that if I got another latrine project with the government (I have a PC-! which a former chief secretary okayed but so far have not found a department to fund it), I would build them some proper latrines......
