I dont know what the situation is over there but here in New - TopicsExpress

I dont know what the situation is over there but here in New Zealand the government a few years back made it easier to get into the Police force by removing many restrictions that were originally in place to keep the Police of the highest quality and to keep them honest. Some Police here even look like gang members in Police clothes, long dreadlocks, tattoos, and some think that they are cowboys. A few years back a woman told some lies about me, called in a Police friend and then the Policeman and another officer came around and threatened me, I was totally stunned and shocked and that is what they planned on. Then a year or so later they did the same, but this time the Policeman was abusive and used bad language and threatened my teenage son. After this event I got my Police record and I have no crimes listed, not even a parking ticket, and this showed that the two lots of Police that came here were faking it and lying. But what worries me is the work ethics changing, or beliefs and rules of decency in the modern Police force. I have two Uncles in the force and they were of an older different time. In the past the Police at least tried to look and act respectful. Recently I walked past our local Police-station and officers were working out in the gym talking to a woman (not sure if she was a Policewoman) and they were loudly swearing, being abusive in a joking manner and such. This would never have been accepted here in New Zealand 20 years back. If the standards of the force is lowered and the standards of society is lowered and this is clearly seen by what is accepted these days compared with 20 to 50 years back, then you have an explosive situation. The Police, nervousness, with less self-control as the old guard had, can get frightened easier and see their gun as a piece of life saving equipment. The liberal government sad that it was unfair that only certain people could get into the Police force and that they wanted to tear down the old restrictive walls that stopped others from getting in the Police force. So they took away a lot of the restrictions and allowed anyone in nearly. But the quality has clearly dropped. This all means that with lower standards the Police are likely to take bribes, lie to help others out etc. And here in New Zealand at one stage (and this may be continuing - I dont much watch the news) Police were often (weekly) being caught for dishonest deeds and taken to court while in uniform. If you drop standards and those strong boundaries that define your job and values is taken away or loosened then crime will be the result. I have no idea if this has happened overseas, but it sure looks like it. All the best from James M Sandbrook.
