I dont like the Pink Helps Fight Breast Cancer thing. Thats ridiculous. It doesnt. It minimizes the terrible reality of breast cancer as a form of actual, you know, /cancer./ Lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, brain cancer… People hear these terms, and its a horrible thing to think about. And while hearing breast cancer, its still a horrible thought, but theres a part of that horror that is lessened subconsciously with pink clothes, pink labels, pink this and pink that, pink everything products, and oh! free marketing if you just sell a PINK ribbon version! Im not saying that the pink ribbon for breast cancer is bad. It can be good and raise awareness of it. However, where we stand now with that possible benefit, were ignoring it to use the ribbon for marketing. The pink ribbon doesnt raise awareness for breast cancer; it raises awareness for Breast Cancer is Retailers and Malls, Big Name Companies, & Fast Food Chains. It says Breast Cancer is Pink and Pretty. It says that heartless company higher-ups want to exploit our sympathy and do absolutely nothing in return. It makes it feel less serious. Friend got a new pink ribbon breast cancer wristband? Oh, thats a cute one! Where did you get it? No talk about breast cancer. Just use the term to refer to the wristband. Its the product, all about the product. How about we talk about BREAST CANCER for once?
