I dont make a habit of checking velocity on my younger catchers, - TopicsExpress

I dont make a habit of checking velocity on my younger catchers, but tonight we checked some of our 10 and 11U fastpitch throwing velocities to get a baseline as we share some updated throwing drills. We will focus with the average of 6 throws each with them at lessons. Then I thought I would do a little checking and looked up the last reported throwing velocities from Blu Chip Events Exposure camp taken here in KC. They measure the best of three throws. The average best throw of 118 high school age girls at Blu Chip events was 50.22 MPH. The average best throw of ACCs 10 and 11U from tonights lessons was 45.00 MPH! This is remarkable for this age group! As we work in the updated throwing drills, we anticipate this average to go up. According to the NFCA the average college softball overhand throwing velocity is 58-59 MPH. 60-62 is considered above average and exceptional is 63+ MPH. We saw one of our college freshman clock at over 65 MPH! My goal for all my catchers is to throw to the potential of their bodies. When they learn to throw in a natural consistent manner, I expect our catchers to easily surpass Blu Chip averages and strongly challenge and exceed NFCA times as well. I am very proud of my catchers. WTG!
