I dont mean to gripe, but Im really aggravated. I finally set my foolish pride aside and applied for FAMIS for my boys. For those of you who dont know, FAMIS is a Virginia health insurance program for children. It makes health care affordable for children of eligible families. Ha, we were denied because we make too much money for a family of 4. Of course, my gross income was used and the $200 that I pay a WEEK for insurance was not subtracted. In my opinion, our government/health care system encourages young, unmarried pregnancies, unemployment, and broken homes. In addition, if the babies daddy is in jail, state insurance is automatically approved. I realize that there are some instances where state services are legit and really do help families afford health care and other things that they need and thats great. If you are a single mom or dad and you are working your butt off and your children need insurance, then they should have it! However, if you are 20 and you have 2 or 3 kids, youve never worked and dont plan to, then your kids should have to do without just like mine do without because my check is paying the taxes that allow you to sit at home all day and do nothing. If Im working my butt off and my kids have to suffer than so should yours! Im just so completely fed up with a society that punishes working families that are doing the right thing.
