I dont necessarily subscribe to the whole astrology thing, but I do believe in science as a whole, be it proven or otherwise. With that in mind, I do believe that Mercury being in Retrograde rather than Direct does affect each of us via the shifting of magnetic fields (both globally and personally) and gravitational influence, which can change each of us differently. It might aid in explaining some of the weird social habits that only come around at certain times of the year for certain people, or ones that change people every year (like right now, for example). I also believe that age, personality traits (introversion or extroversion, for example) and environment, when compiled with this, can greatly influence moods, decision-making and communication between people around this time. Given, this is simply my observation over the course of the years Ive spent on this planet, and is quite plainly conjecture; but regardless, I find it fascinating. :) Genki Darkstar, would you care to expand on this with your own findings?
