I dont normally talk about political issues on my page but Ive - TopicsExpress

I dont normally talk about political issues on my page but Ive been so disturbed by my newsfeed since last week and the #ferguson decision. Ive literally cried while reading some of this because its heartbreaking. It seems that the majority of people are taking sides in this issue and its created such division. The latest thing that keeps popping up is this picture, being shared over and over, without investigating where its coming from. The comments I see attached to the photoshopped pictures are harsh. This is what the mindset of America is today or What do they expect is what most people are saying.... but I see something different. I see a country divided that doesnt care to look beyond the color and see the hurt. Instead of being compassionate, someone photoshopped the picture and made this man an object of ridicule. This is a man who is hurt and instead of trying to understand him, we share his picture with harsh words. At the end of the day, can we stand in the middle and talk to one another? Can we look inward and see if there is sin in our own heart towards one another? I love my black friends. I love my cop friends. I dont think this should be a matter of taking sides, but standing in the middle and having compassion for one another. Can we take a look around and acknowledge each other? Can I be honest enough to say that as a Momma raising a blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy I have never feared how people will react to him walking down the street? Maybe its more than just the individual cases but a bigger issue that Ive never thought about because Im white. Maybe its not just about how cops see people but how we all see each other. Ill be honest enough to admit that there have been times I was intimidated by someone simply because he was black. That is sin and it is wrong. If I cant acknowledge my own sin, I cant expect there to be change. Pretending these thoughts have never happened will not bring change. And I would never consider myself to be racist. I have lots of friends of all color; some of my childrens closest friends are not white yet that thought has crossed my mind. Maybe this is what the protests are about? I think Jesus would have wrapped his arm around this man and empathized with his pain. I think Jesus would sit with the officers who are anxious every day as they go to work as well. As a Christian, I want to see this issue through the eyes of Christ. Romans 12:9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Romans 12:15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! I have lots more growth to do in this area. I do not have all the answers to solve this problem. Im simply asking God to reveal the sin in my own heart so I can repent. I can also pray for peace and unity in our country. I think Michael Jackson said it pretty well: Im starting with the man in the mirror Im asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change #blacklivesmatter #whitelivesmatter #alllivesmatter
