I dont prefer writing on the Indian education system as it just pisses me off. I feel like hurting someone real bad. The Indian education system is a problem that can be fixed. It effects countrys future ,has effects on almost every family,everyone knows about it but is viable to fix it. But still nothing happens because of the great Indian culture that wants no changes. To bring about a change you have to stick out your neck & fight hard for it & that ironically is something that we are taught not to do. There are 5 major problems: 1) Lack of required top-tier universities. 2) Emphasis on cut-offs 3) The actual course content. 4) Allocation of college seats on the basis of caste 5) The mentality of the parents. Lack of top-tier universities: The first issue is about the supply of top institutions versus the number of high potential students. There are a 10 to 20 million students writing class 12 examination every year. And do the 10% of it who scores the top ranks get quality education? The answer is no. So the government has to increase the number of seats in the top universities. The major reason for this lack is students get college seats with the dependence on the caste. So Indian government should bring about a change. Instead of approving the building super big malls & other stuffs,it will be good if the government starts building good colleges with qualified teachers. If there is a good number of seats for the students competing,its well & good. If not the fight is going to be pretty bad. That is what is happening every year. Emphasis on cut-off: A student securing 98 per cent is no less capable or intelligent than the one securing 99 per cent. The emphasis on cutoffs every year just goes on to show that the educational system is broken somewhere, Says Chetan Bhagat, an IIT-Delhi and IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, told IANS in an email interaction from Mumbai. Equipped with the best qualifications, he enjoyed a high-profile banking job for 11 years, but decided to move away from number crunching to writing. The author of many best-sellers also said in a recent interview that a student should not feel bad after being rejected as theres a place for everyone somewhere and that he/she can survive even without securing the highest cutoff because that definitely does not set the standard of the quality of education he or she has been getting since childhood. The actual course content: What do they teach in schools & colleges? How much do we use it in daily life later? Has the world changed from the past? If yes,Has the course content changed in the same pace? If no,Has it changed at all? Who are the people changing our course material? Most study only to get a job. We only emphasize sticking to the course. The student who is thorough with all his lessons is more likely to score. I hate this personally and Im sure millions do,but they dont have a choice. INNOVATION,IMAGINATION,CREATIVITY has no place in this education system. We ensure we kill this spirit in the child as soon as possible. Because innovation as per the book means Challenging the existing waySays Bhagat .This course material pressurizes the student. It doesnt give the joy it has to for the learners but the pressure of not being sent back by the people participating in the race of life. To be certain students are not getting educated but trained. Only animals get trained or undergo training. Visual learning has greater impact than text book learning as children are more receptive to things they witness visually. While books prepare the children in subjects like maths and science that help them secure a job, the learning required to win in life is not limited to these books, Chetan Bhagat quotes. Allocation of college seats on the basis of caste: There is one big criteria according to which our government distributes college seat to the students. It is the caste based system. Sorry Im not supposed say it that way instead the government says it as allocation with justice. Funny! Isnt it?. How does it feel to a student who scores 99/100 and doesnt get the college of his dreams just because he is from a higher caste and sees a friend of him going to the college of the first fellows dreams inspite scoring lesser marks just because he is of a lower caste. Im sorry Im not here to discriminate anyone but still this has to be out of play so that the upcoming generation at least gets fair justice and not what is so called justice. Mentality of the parents: The mentality of todays parents is that they want their child to be safe. I mean,they dont care about the interests of the child. They join him in a course that fetches him money in the future. Thats good actually, money is important to survive,but when he doesnt like what hes doing he starts hating his life & all sorts of non-sense happens. For instance: One who is passionate about writing cannot become an engineer (or) a musician cannot become a doctor. It may sound funny but it hurts. A lost passion hurts more that a lost organ. Thus I finally request everyone of this generation at-least to allow their kids to study what they love. Ive outlined the flaws of Indian education system but not in depth. On working out together I believe that we can give our next generation education & not training Peace!
