I dont really like blogging, and sometimes wonder why I make myself do it. Today, I got my answer -- so I can go back and read what I was thinking/doing years ago. (Its like a fleshed-out version of #tbt.) I spent 30 minutes reading some of my old blog posts at mirandapaulbooks.blogspot. I came across a 2011 post in which I said I was going to throw out all of the trendy book ideas I had if my heart wasnt really in them, and write what I WANTED to write. That week, I began writing free online articles about the women of Njau Recycling Centre. On that same 2011 blog post I added, Now, if I can only find a way to turn my knowledge of and love for remote Gambian villages into stories that the public will buy, were all set. Talk about subconsciously setting a goal! I wrote the first draft of One Plastic Bag six months later and sent the submission that would land a book contract five months after that. 31 days from today, it will be on store shelves. So...tonight, raise a glass to the past. Even small moments have shaped the endeavors we pursue and the amazing people we become. Happy New Year, everyone!
