I dont see a major problem with the test. I do see a problem with (presumably) an American university giving this woman a PhD in English. I just spent the weekend helping 2nd and 3rd graders write essays based on similar prompts. The essays werent as elaborate as junior high/high school/college students would write but they wrote them. By the time they are in college their essays will be far better than the drivel that is acceptable in college these days. And tomorrow we will be complaining about how dumb most Americans are. This is why. Were always asking for something to be easier. We always want to be graded on a curve. As one of my very wise math professors stated, There is no curve in the real world. While we are so worried about social progression and failing to challenge our best and brightest, the best and brightest in China and other countries are training to beat our asses at our game.
