I dont think anything of consequence will come out of prosecuting the doofs who toppled the rock formation in Goblin Valley, UT last year. I have no sympathy for them, but theyre an easy mark because they were stupid enough to be exhibitionists in regard to what they did. What about the untold scores of other vandals? Not just the rock and tree scratchers, the folks who wade through potholes or crunch across cryptobiotic soil. How about the outfitters who haul hundreds of bikes and bikers out to the pristine backcountry every week for their extreme adventures? What about the ringmasters of base-jumping, zip-lining and other highwire acts that are desecrating the canyons, buttes, and arches every day? Those doofs are no better than the guys getting prosecuted for low-jinks in Goblin Valley. Is any of that going to stop? Probably not, because as the saying goes in these parts, Cant cure stupid.
