I dont think many of the people who are anti-immigration are racist (many are simply repeating the talking points of others), but most of their arguments are. Ive heard that Hispanic people are lazy people who just want handouts. That they are criminals who are going to steal, rape and murder. That they are intellectually inferior. That they are not patriotic enough to fix their own country so they are running away to the US. That they will all become Democrat because they dont care about individual rights. That even blacks dont want them here because there is only room for one ethnic victim group in America. Its pretty pathetic how racist the arguments are. And the Republicans are the worst, whining about how Obama just wants them here because theyll be future Democrats. Guess what, Republicans, these immigrants tend to be much harder working, less handout seeking, more socially conservative people than the Republican voters that make up your ranks. The problem with the Republican party is that the only thing that trumps social conservatism (because it certainly isnt anti-social welfare) is racist and xenophobic attitudes toward minorities. If Republicans embraced these immigrants theyd lose their real base - racist whites.
