I dont think one needs to be either part of the new world or old world. These are not mutually exclusive as was stated in the video by Ms Merchant. We are fluid culture. And i think our social and familial value system is strong enough to accept better ways of doing things. At least in some parts of India. Everything has to be taken subjectively and based on our ability to accept responsibility. In the video, one of the characters stated she was so uncomfortable publicly displaying her body in a bikini. And women in general in India are uncomfortable in doing so. So are we regressive? Just because the west is comfortable in doing so - and they have become comfortable only in the last 60 years. My concern with this concept of the new world is that media, influencers, people with a pen and a mike, want India to blindly ape the west. Thats a fallacy. And we want it to be done so that we are considered to be a progressive culture.
