I dont understand the patent backlash against standards based grading. I knew I was in the minority when I was at a middle school orientation and parents let out a raucous CHEER when we give letter grades was mentioned. When Eva was in elementary with SBG, I knew exactly what skills she had mastered and which we needed to work on. These days, I know she has a B- but I dont know exactly why. Homework? Tests? I dont think this is a teachers perspective, because when I see how much work it is for the elementary teachers I dont envy it and think boy, I wish I could do that. Ive had both systems and I dont understand the resentment for standards based.
