I dont understand what people are watching in the battle for the backup job in Green Bay. One guy looks as though he could be an emerging top-flight STARTING QB, and the other guy looks as though HE DOES NOT BELONG IN THE NFL!! And yet, at the game on Thursday, the crowd... and the Wisconsin media... seem to see the backup battle as pretty even steven... WHAT ARE THEY WATCHING.... here are the QBER numbers for the preseason: Scott Tolzien: 20.34 Matt Flynn: 9.63 Tolziens numbers are those of a TOP FLIGHT STARTER... Tolzien appears to, indeed, be starting caliber. Tolziens numbers are BARELY BACKUP QUALITY. MOREOVER, Flynn has the arm strength of a sheltered monk. If there are 16 options he will take the 17th --- the checkdown. Tolzien can go up top. He has mastered the offense and appears to k now EXACTLY WHERE TO GO WITH THE football. And most importantly he seems to have cured his turnover problem (though Dave Berri will tell you that is an inconsistent stat) What I am saying, people is that the battle for backup, by any objective measure... has NOT BEEN CLOSE. And yet everyone perceives it as close. Someone should do a psychological study on this preseason.
