I dont understand why theres so many people who say, You arent a real DJ unless you mix vinyl, instead of bridging the gap between classic and modern technology youre just making them further and further apart. I can kind of understand if its someone is stood at a mixer with no headphones on, constantly pressing the sync button just to put 2 beats together, not a great deal of skills required to be able to do that but theyre still doing it for the love of the music, so leave them to it, its not a competition so being bitter will get you nowhere. I actually like having a mix on vinyl, its cool, Im not gonna say Im amazing with vinyl but when all Ive ever learnt with is CDJs and controllers, how can anyone expect me to be? Its 2014, a completely different era to when kids were growing up with a Commodore 64, now kids are growing up with PS4s and Xbox Ones, are you gonna say that theyre not true gamers unless they play Pong? Can you blame them for using the latest DJ equipment? After all, it seems like the average vinylist isnt up for teaching kids the classic way to mix music, instead they indirectly knock their confidence and show no respect by telling them that they, arent a real DJ. You dont see any of the new generation telling you to get with the times or that vinyl is out-dated and ancient. If you step back and think about it, if you use your headphones, beat-match (without a BPM counter), set cue points and still pull off a banging mix then what is there to say that that persons vinyl counterpart is any more skillful than him/her? Its the 21st century, if you dont like it now then youre not gonna like it in 10 years time either. Instead of being so bitter about kids taking advantage of the latest technology, embrace it and for your own sake, GET USED TO IT.
