I dont understand why we dont have a mandatory quorum on all - TopicsExpress

I dont understand why we dont have a mandatory quorum on all elections and amendments voted on by the public. If we had a quorum, Amendment 1 in NC would not have been contended, with 1/3 of the state showing up to vote and slightly over half voting for it, that would mean 1/6 of the state made a decision for all of us. If we had a quorum, the city of Sylva would not have just elected a new mayor on November 5th with only 198 people turning out to vote (the tally was 162 to 36 - Matheson winning). I dont know if Mathesons a good or bad choice, but the lack of people voting kills me. I know towns cant afford to keep having elections over and over again until enough people show up, but this is certainly a problem that needs a better solution, nationwide.
