I dont understand why we seem to be able to microwave metal these days, but 20 or so years ago it was the ultimate evil - Has physics changed when I wasnt looking or something? I have noticed that these days, pies and things in aluminium foil dishes are fine to put in microwaves, and with this in mind I finally decided to see if one of my big Bubba Keg tea cups with a big metal outside part was ok - And it was fine, not a single spark and my tea was warmer coming out than going in.
