I dont use FB for a public forum, but I guess I changed my mind now that I am frustrated! Take a look at these pictures and then ask yourself if Muscle Shoals has a fair and equitable GRASS ordinance. I am not talking the kind you smoke, but the kind that has to be 12 in height or be fined and/or jail time. Here are my pictures and I got a fine of $300 for not having the grass cut when the grass commissioner made his appearance at my lot based on a neighbors complaint. Yet, I also know for a fact that the grass commissioner has (in the past) called people and told them to get it cut before he had to send out a notice. If only I had time, I would alert the news media b/c they just thought they had a good story with the administrators decision over the student with the red hair. That story PALES in comparison to the grass incident where they put people in jail if the grass is over 12 or in my case where a neighbor keeps on and on and yet grass is growing in excess of 20 within blocks of CITY Hall. The grass policy MUST see this everyday on the way to work. BTW, my court date is Thursday and I already have had two judges recuse themselves from my court appearance. They are having to bring in a Florence judge, but HEY, I paid 300 for his appearance. So sorry to vent, but if they cant enforce it uniformly, then what good is the ordinance. Sorry if I lose FB friends over this, but I cant support such ordinances when they clearly cannot be enforced equitably. The first pictures are my lot BEFORE cutting. The cut part that you see is where the city cut the right of way. These were cut the day that I had scheduled it to be cut, but the notice came a few days earlier than I deemed it ready to be cut. The other pictures are of grass higher than 12 that were RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the lot that the grass police measured and sent me a notice. It is a no win for me because I have a neighbor next to this lot that goes out and measures if the grass gets CLOSE to 11 3/4 inches. This is an empty lot, so it doesnt need to be cut every week, although that is probably the direction I will have to go or serve jail time or hard labor..or be fined an additional 500.
