I dont usually read comments. Apparently, literacy and critical thinking are not part of every Americans skill set. Political mass hysteria has caused many well-meaning Americans to suffer a break with reality. Social media has provided a glimpse into the psyche of uneducated, misinformed and xenophobic Americans. The world view of this segment of American society appears to have been hijacked by theocratic-fundamentalist-Neo-confederate-identity politics. This ideological cross-pollination contains conflicting issues. Here are a few examples: - Freedom vs adherence to literal interpretation of biblical text - Constitutionalism vs States Rights - Small Government vs the industrial military complex - Privacy vs National Security - Equal protection under the law vs deregulation - Ideological purity vs collusion with corporate lobbyists - Civil Rights vs hypocrisy relative to the reality of race, class and gender. The harsh tone that echoes through what passes for political discourse is, in my opinion, displaced disappointment and aggression rooted in the failure to achieve and sustain the American Dream.
