I dont usually speak out about issues on this medium, but in the last few weeks Ive been informed of number of instances where local Pastors and Christian Counselors are giving church-goers counsel/advice on matters which are really not within their professional ability, and should be referred to a mature and properly trained Psychologist (who may also be a Christian if thats what the person theyre speaking to desires). The damage thats being done, both mentally, relationally and the dangerous situations that our well meaning church counselors/pastors have been putting people into is appalling and bordering cruel. Please, if youre a pastor/counselor know your limits and get a partnership happening with a local psychologist whom you can refer your flock to when it becomes obvious that the person youre trying to help needs more than you can give.
