I dont want older profs to retire (unless they want to). I want them to fight like hell, take risks and protect younger colleagues from overwork, administrative discipline and precariousness. They have the power and protection. Im proud and inspired to have known many examples of activist academics whove sustained their work for decades and struggled to open new spaces for younger faculty. This blaming of the elders is just a knee-jerk reaction from those who cant be bothered to actually challenge the real power structures in the neoliberal university. The problem isnt old profs; its inactive, cynical or outright neoliberal profs of all ages.
