I dont want to focus on the welfare aspect of this clip or the rights and wrongs of animal testing, (please avoid discussing that) but rather of the behavioral aspect of these 9 dogs who have lived their entire lives in cages in a laboratory.... being let out into a backyard for the first time ever. See how quickly they become dogs how quickly they play like dogs, how they immediately tune into each others body language and start to form pack behaviors. Each time I watch this clip I notice something new, or something fascinating considering that these dogs have never socialised in groups before, have never run as a pack and have never had an opportunity to socialise with humans before. Things we take for granted that every dog does... these dogs have had no exposure to before..... so what you are really seeing is a group of totally inhibited dogs finally getting a chance to actually be a dog. I cant help but draw parallels between dogs that are kept in houses full time in the US & UK, but I guess cultural differences make us see things differently........ but watching this moment in their lives is a real treat from a behaviorists point of view.
