I dont want to remember. Ill lived in Manhattan in 2001 and now I live directly across the river 10 minutes away. Every time. Every time I look at the Manhattan skyline outside my apartment I see those majestic buildings missing. Those buildings where I spent so much time as the company I worked for launched and ran the World Trade Centers free summer concert series every day all summer long. Fun and exciting. Where my best friend - who I recruited - played the first black Santa in NYC up at the observation deck. Every time. Every time as I looked over at the view as the new Freedom Tower rose. Every time I see armed national guards, who never had a presence before, at the bus station. Every time I see increased police presence in the subway due to a heightened terror alert. I dont want to remember. Yet theres no escaping. Its our new reality. Im not disrespecting those who lost their lives or their loved ones. Im honoring them by choosing to truly live. Every time I step into my bigger self. Every time I help someone else begin their journey to live their dream. Every time I go back into the city. I wont be silenced. I wont live in fear. Embrace life now.
