I don’t, as a rule, post a lot of my private life on FB but for this post, I’m treating that as more of a guideline (sort of like the Pirate’s Code). Today, my birthday started out as a typical birthday does: with full mug of espresso and two Husqvarna 288s (with 34” inch bars and skip tooth chisel chains) in the back of the F150 for a drive out into the bush to fall trees for firewood. Ten minutes from my home the unexpected happened: I had debilitating chest pain that forced me to pull over and hunch over the steering wheel in agony. I got out of the truck, walked a bit but the pain didn’t subside very much. I checked into the hospital and spent the next 7 hrs being tested and monitored for a heart attack (so much for 44 being the new 34) before they ruled it out and discharged me (to return tomorrow for more tests). While the outcome was good, and my logical mind forced me wait for results before writing myself off for that lonely boat ride across the river Styx, it was a long, introspective day in bed. Birthdays are good times for such introspection but the fear (even the slightest) of what bad results might mean for my lifestyle heightened that soul searching. I’m grateful I didn’t have a heart attack and die (that would suck), for hard working and caring health care professionals and for my good health to date. While I’m uncertain of what the issue is, my heart is strong and healthy and I still intend to live full on and going sliding into my grave with a beat up and bruised body and soul from trying to live a full life. Starting with getting into a flying, pressurized incubator with a hundred virus carrying bodies and cruising at 33,000 ft for 5 hrs and going to a country with privatized, expensive health care costs to fight my heart out on the mats! I’m thankful for all the private messages/texts/emails and calls on my birthday. I’d wish all of you health and happiness...and that you all take a moment to be thankful for your health and those you care about. Now...back to work...
