I don’t know about you but I am so thankful and grateful for the salvation we have in Jesus Christ! And as great as this gift is, it is just the tip of the iceberg. We have so much more in Christ. When we realize that we don’t have to become like Christ on our own power, and with our own resources, but instead just have to rely on the riches and wealth we have been given by God, discipleship becomes so much easier! In 2 Peter 1, Peter tells us several things that have been given to us at the time of salvation: “To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” Our faith is not just something that gets us eternal life, but is also something that develops the Christ life within us. We believe in Jesus to receive eternal life, and we continue to believe in Jesus to receive the abundant life. Through faith in Christ, we are declared righteous, and through faith in Christ, we become righteous, living by faith, or walking in the Spirit as He makes us and molds us into His righteousness. The path of discipleship is not one of a lot of effort and exertion on our own, but more of trusting and obeying - not so much a “Let go, and let God” as it is a “Trust God, and get going!” John 1 says Jesus is the True Light and as Pastor Mark pointed out Sunday His Light is clear and pure; penetrates and eliminates darkness; enlarges our vision and knowledge; reveals all areas of Truth; His Light guides and directs to the right path; exposes and strips away darkness; warns of dangers; and protects us. 1 Peter 2:9 says we have been saved and are “A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”! Don’t hide His light and keep it from those around us in darkness, Theres nothing like a brightly shining light to drive away the darkness and dispel confusion. The unsaved people around you may not have their theology straight, but its hard to overlook or deny the witness of your life as its lived for Christ. Is there something about your life that cannot be explained apart from the power of God working in you?
