I drove to the courthouse yesterday, through the wind and the snow - TopicsExpress

I drove to the courthouse yesterday, through the wind and the snow and the sleet, through slop on the roads 4 inches deep and on the sidewalks maybe an inch deeper. I got to the courthouse a half hour late, having called ahead, and dashed up to the courtroom, soaked and determined to protect and defend. I was greeted by a fellow lawyer, a little Jewish hippy from the 60s, who happily informed me that he had volunteered to stand in for me and that the case had been dismissed for want of prosecution (adorably know as D-WOP) because the witness had the good sense to stay home, and my client had already left. Two hours of wintry misery, and all for nothing. Two hours more to get home. I had an urge to hit him. Quite a strong urge actually. I gave him a hug instead. He loves hugs. I am billing the Committee for Public Counsel Services for $15.00 for my services. Just try to stop me. Just try. I wonder if he sensed the homicidal urge in that hug?
