I encourage all of you to take a couple minutes and look at this trailer. Music Education is important in our schools as much as Math and Science. It is a fact that students that learn to play an instrument at a young age or even start and play through high school perform better in all aspects of the classroom and life. I know that participating in marching band in high school gave me extreme lessons in discipline, teamwork, punctuality, attention to detail, and reliability. These are all things I was able to take and apply in higher education, my career, and in life. Through my instrumental background I was able to find my love for singing and joined the school chorus also. I have a daughter that was in the colorguard and played flute in the high school band and continued to spin colorguard flags in college marching band. My other daughter has played the violin since the age of 7 and now is a violin performance major and will graduate top of her class this year. Music has not only helped them but kept them grounded and productive in a world when 20 year olds are not always the most productive. I am proud of them both. I am proud to be a parent that is an advocate for music education.
