I ended up sitting next to a really sweet Iraqi guy from Basra on the long flight from Dubai back to Perth. He had visa to migrate here, but he didnt have much English so I helped him fill out his landing card and tried my best to explain the whole arrivals process. He was sooooo excited to arrive in Perth. Seeing how our country is giving a new start to a kid who had no future on the other side of the world, it was one of those (increasingly rare) moments when I felt really proud to be from here.
