I expect that is pretty much part of the point. If the Progressives/Democrats can get people sufficiently angry, they can create still more divisions and yet another crisis to exploit. People divided against each other will need the strong hand of government to keep them from abusing each other, and they will not be able to unite against the government, because of all the (government-sponsored) anger against each other. It worked back in the Persian, Chinese, Roman and Mongol empires, no reason not to use it again.
