I experienced a miracle at church yesterday. I cant quite get it out of my mind so Im sharing. I sat down late because I was a greeter and was in the back row. A young man with a backpack and guitar arrived and it seemed clear he didnt live indoors. He sat behind me. I was pretty distracted because he had a pretty overwhelming scent. That doesnt usually bother me but it was really getting to me and I couldnt focus on what was going on. All of a sudden we sang the hymn Help Us Accept Each Other. Theres a line in the third verse, to practice acceptance until we know by heart to them love them as we find them or as they may become. I just began to cry. The pastors sermon was titled Discovering the Other. I keep going to church because I keep learning. After the sermon, I couldnt smell him anymore. I thought he left. I tried to find the smell. We got to the end of the service, and the closing hymn was Sent Forth by Gods Blessing. I turned a little and saw him smiling at me. He has the most beautiful blue eyes. At the closing, we pass the peace. I turned to him and he reached out his hand, I said, No, Im a hugger. I am so grateful for this miracle and for his hug. It will stay with me for a long time.
