I feel a blog post coming on (ie..RANT) I havent had the time to - TopicsExpress

I feel a blog post coming on (ie..RANT) I havent had the time to sit down to really collect my thoughts about this until now. I had a chance to meet some really great people when I went to the Indianapolis Rally. One person comes to mind who I wont name right now until I get everything lined up fact-wise but the short version is that this individual brought themselves back from the point of no return. Wheelchair bound and well over 400 lbs ( I believe the number is MUCH higher), tons of health issues, they were probably regarded by society as a no-win situation. I mean after all, people with far less issues struggle to lose a few pounds and have full mobility. In short, they lost around 220 or 240 lbs, they can walk again, and have reclaimed much of their life without surgical intervention. This is nothing short of a miracle. Here is the part where my blood begins to boil. They been interviewed and featured in numerous outlets until finally they got a call from the Today Show and wanted them to be on the show... that is until they saw a picture. They told them basically that their appearance was socially unacceptable therefore they did not want them on TV and an opportunity to spread some hope has been lost. What an insult. Obesity destroys the body pure and simple. Those that have never been there dont get it. In a world filled with nauseating fitspirational posters of people who have never been more than a few pounds overweight, the general perception created by the media sets the expectation that losing weight also involves the creation of a beach body as well. Those without a six pack need not apply. Because of our media driven expectations, we not only look down upon our own efforts because we dont meet the standard - whatever the heck that means, and we also miss the everyday miracles such as this because it cannot be paraded down a catwalk. This is shameful. There are issues with morbid obesity that no one wants to talk about... never mind the loose skin, the joint issues, the painful reminders, we all want to look like that guy/gal... you know what I mean. A comeback like this is almost unheard of. Usually people in said condition are considered lost by society. If they were lost then their story of how they were found again is crucial not only to the world but to science to gain more understanding to metabolic syndrome and how to overcome it. It is a shame that Hollywood Fitness has defined what success truly is. Actually, I will name her and she can correct the numbers for me because I know they are not exactly right. This is her story paraphrased. Meet Beth Donovan. If you feel lost in your efforts to lose weight and believe that success belongs to the other guy (or gal) drop her a line. Actually, while I am at it, let me name a few others in this Hall Of Fame Jerome Merlau John Hulsey Nancy Kraus Howard They have been there. They can tell you that there is hope. Never mind Hollywood or the Infomercials, there are real people out there that I have had the pleasure of knowing that have done it, that have fought the battle and continue to cross swords every day. They know the taste of victory and they also know those moments when they are sitting in a mud puddle at the bottom of a foxhole wondering what happened but yet they are still here. You can do it, you dont need Hollywoods approval. ***End of rant **
