I feel a need to rant: I really wonder why students are so damn tired in this school...why my diet and sleep patterns have changed, along with so many others. Some people say, Oh, thats college life for you. No, college and life are two separate things. They never should be put together. This is a place to study, and get the hell out and go to your real LIFE which is your job, marrying someone, living on your own, pay your own bills and living an actual life away from all the damn books and lecturing. I mean, when youre 35 or whatever, youre old enough not be told whats right and whats wrong. My point is, this school or perhaps a lot of other schools fails at keeping a good control over how much time a student has during when he sleeps, eats, goes for private tutoring, studies, and does homework, and what I mean by that is; even though people implement the words hard work into all of this, it still doesnt matter when youve got 5 days of schooling and hardly any time to yourself to just go to a nearby bowling alley or whatever and have some good time to yourself. No, theres always boat loads of homework to do. I mean, my drawing class literally gives 20 minutes out of 5 and a half hours for a break, just one break. Thats pathetic. I would expect at least 45 minutes to go out and get something to eat. But 20 minutes? I cant even walk around and find a good restaurant in 20 minutes alone. Im not complaining, Ill stick it out to the end. But my sleep patterns and diet have changed to the point where my days and nights have almost shifted and some days Im only eating one meal, but this is the times when I have classes, and who am I blaming this on? Im not blaming this on the teachers, no. Why am I not? Because Im looking at the big picture. These teachers are controlled by whoever pays them and they are controlled by whoever pays them and owns them. No one owns the teachers, but whoever pays the teachers is owned by the board of ed, or big brother as some like to call. I find it really sad that every teacher is controlled by whoever is in charge. A lot of students cant stand some of their teachers, but personality traits and whoever tells them what to do are 2 different things. A teacher who throws things across the room whenever he or she is angry is different than he or she giving a lot of homework. Its much different. The teacher is not the one who is in control of giving homework. Hell, if they werent getting payed and they were some private tutor, or a volunteer teacher, they wouldnt even have to give any homework. But the board of ed tells them to give homework, period, and tests. One of my teachers back in high school said that homework is not a real way to have a student learn something. She said that with demonstrations and showing exactly how to do something step by step by sitting with them and doing classwork is how you get someone to learn something the right way. She even said that she was getting into trouble for not giving as many tests out as the protocol demanded. I mean, what do you learn through tests, nothing. Same with homework, and this is why the United States is one of the lower ranks in education. Its sad, really. If teachers were more independent and did what THEY, the teacher thought would be a good way to teach, Im pretty damn sure we would be better off. Look up the way that Finland teaches. 93% of everybody in that country graduates from High School and over 60% of people go to college.
