I feel agitated by what is happening in this country, or what has - TopicsExpress

I feel agitated by what is happening in this country, or what has been happening and I dont feel like being quiet about it. To all my white friends, we have no idea what life is like for blacks. Period. Stop acting like we do, we have an inkling, weve had moments were weve been wronged or judged and we call it inequality, but we really do not know. I am a white, blonder haired light eyed woman, and my life its easier because of it, that is the truth and it is so unfair. The judgement and hatred, it unnerves me. It gets right into the core of who I am and shakes the fabric of my being. I wish everyone would open their hearts and expand their beliefs to see the humanity and difficulty that comes from being judged immediately without anyone even trying to get to know you. If youve walked to the other side of the street, if youve said Ive have black friends, if youve had to point out that someone you are talking about is black, if youve predetermined who some is before getting to know them, if youve allowed anyone to make racist comments or jokes around you - you are part of the problem. If you are not outraged by the fact that we still have to defend another human beings rights to have a just and fair trial rather than being gunned down on the street we should no longer be friends. Unfriend me and be done with it. I remember before the 12th street projects came down in South Philly. I was the only white on our street and when cops came onto our street I went out to be an obvious witness to what ever was about to happen because I feared for my kids on the block. The kids on my street were awesome, they had amazing potential and they did so many wonderful things when given a chance. They cleaned the streets, did good deeds, helped the shut in, they made me laugh, I still have drawing s they made for me...and yet, cops would come on the street and accuse them of wrong doing with any just cause. No conversation, no questions, just assumed guilt. I saw it happen, it front of me, often. It is not a rare occurrence, it happens daily. Please, be courageous. please step up and stop being part of the continuing story of inequality in this country. It is 2014 - we should not have to have this conversation any more, but clearly we do. It is time to speak your mind people and inspire the world to live a different way, a more loving, accepting and equal way.
