I feel compelled to comment on something. I may lose some FB friends on this, but I think its really sad when we let differences of opinion to intrude into a friendship. Its about all the talk about all these kids flooding into the U.S. from south of the border. Now, first of all, I am not an expert on anything. I form my opinions based on what I see, hear, and read. Sometimes I feel too uninformed to say anything. But I feel compelled to comment on this and Im open to correction/clarification/ disagreement. But lets not get personal against anyone commenting on this. Keep it civil or Ill delete it. My opinion, and I stress the word opinion is that many of these kids should be granted political asylum. I base that on one story I read about a boy who had to flee Honduras because of all the gang violence. The gangs were forcing all the kids to either join their gang or be killed. So the choice was to either join the gang or be shot, or join the gang and be shot by a rival gang. Im sure there are many other stories like this. Now, lets take a look at another aspect of this. These kids are fighting lilke hell to get into the U.S. And their fleeing horrible circumstances in order to find freedom from all those horrible circumstances. My feeling is that, after what theyve been through, theyll be extremely grateful for what they can find here. Sound familiar? I think theyd make pretty good citizens, and hard working ones too. I concede that our resources are limited and theres only so much we can do. I have no answer for that one. Paradoxes, the bane of my existence.
