I feel like Ive read so many arguments on the tipped minimum wage, - TopicsExpress

I feel like Ive read so many arguments on the tipped minimum wage, and proposed solution. And yet the one good solution is one no one seems to think of. No, servers should not be only getting $2.13 an hour because more and more people are refusing to tip for various stupid reasons. You arent required to but you really need to. To people thinking that servers should be paid a flat hourly rate that is more than minimum wage, with absolutely no tips allowed, no. Even though they may be excited for awhile knowing they will be making money no matter what, and feel like a weight is lifted off their shoulders so they can enjoy their work, eventually servers will get complacent and there will be no good service. What should be done is having the tipping system the way it was meant to be. To insure prompt service. Servers should get an hourly wage, but not an outrageous one. That would only raise prices of food and encourage businesses to staff less (because less people would eat out and staff would cost more). If they got a decent living wage (we all agree minimum wage should be raised right?) and then were tipped to insure good service, people would not have to tip, a server would not be expecting a tip, and it would do just what it is intended. Too many people these days still wouldnt tip, because they already feel they dont have to, but then it wouldnt matter. They would get to have their crappy service if they are crappy people or good service if their good people because their server is getting paid either way. And for the servers that argue they wouldnt make as much- the people that tip you well are still going to tip you well, because chances are they arent tipping you to support your lifestyle but because you gave good service. It really only prevents crappy tippers from ruining your night after you have spectacular service.
