I feel like SUCH a worthless POS....I keep thinking there was more I could have done...Just yesterday I was talking to another FG breeder and explained that I wanted to breed Fred to my 2 steel does this September and see how they did as moms and just put the young in my freezer along with Fred. His ear dropped again and with the controversy over his coloring, I just didnt want a bunch of crap following my name as a new breeder. This afternoon, I went out to change water & ice jugs for all the buns, and I found Fred...passed away. I thought he was sleeping. I took his poor carcass to the vet, he weighed 11# and had gained since I got him. The vet said that it appeared to be a massive inner ear infection pocket that ruptured into the brain instead of outwards to drain and most likely killed him instantly. He said I had done everything possible and it was likely due to the extreme case of ear mites and that the combination of mites and extreme infection was likely what caused his ear to droop so bad. So...I got some antibiotic drops for the 2 does, and said to treat them with 4 drops per ear once a day for 10 days in the evenings and treat with the mineral oil every third morning. The good thing is that all 3 have been kept completely away from all the rest of the rabbits. So I am treating the 2 girls and hoping like hell I dont loose them, too. I wish there was some kind of money back guarantee but that isnt going to happen. He came to my house 10 days ago...guess it wasnt soon enough. Folks....PLEASE watch your buns ears!!! Keep them from getting mites and infections!! This just makes me sick & sad....RIP, Fred...Sorry I couldnt...didnt get more done for you.
