I feel like a Job Nomad. I worked 20 years in the banking industry - TopicsExpress

I feel like a Job Nomad. I worked 20 years in the banking industry and survived numerous mergers, take overs and even a bank failure. I had a job created for me. Left Boston, went home after dad died to be with mom, came to Ohio for love and felt as if I did some good supporting my husband. I love partnerships. I love being a Team player. However, since I had to get back into the work force, I opened the new Marshalls here and left after 9 months, due to lousy hours. So many of us left. Got hired at JC Penney, with promises of much better hours, that began to change. Worked at a factory, 12 hour shifts, 7pm to 7 am. I was OK with that, but grueling work physically and hours were cut back two weeks after I started..and then layoffs. Found another job and I like it...and now hours are being cut across the board. I have applied at various banks, for teller positions, which is what I did at the beginning of my banking career. Loved the job, but no one will even call me for an interview. I wonder, is it my age? I see employees at my bank that are way older than me. Do they think Im over qualified because of whats on my resume? Do they think Ill want $28.00 an hour AGAIN after all these years? If I dont find a 40 hour a week job soon, Im gonna shoot myself. I work my ass off. I love working my ass off. Im customer focused, dont call in sick, get up early to allow for snow, work whatever shifts Im needed, and am called Smiley yet again at this job.
