I feel like there has been so much discussion about marriage today.. or maybe thats just me. A brother just posted something about womens rights. It just got me thinking.. of how important it is for us to know our rights. Dont take it lightly, ladies! And please.. dont rush to marry without learning your rights like the back of your hand. I went to a halaqa before I converted and there was a woman who told all the girls... know your rights. Because, despite how unislamic it might be, there are men who will try to take advantage of us and use Islam to do it. Its not a light subject and it can be hard to hear but we should know.. I cant exactly say what I want in words so I hope everyone is understanding what I am saying. Maybe Patricia can make sense of it. I just run around in circles saying you know what i mean? But really.. know your rights! Take time to learn them before thinking of jumping into marriage. I thought of marriage in my early days of reverting.. and I thought I was ready for it but I really wasnt, still not ready. Ive figured that out and given myself a year to establish myself in Islam and to learn what my rights are as a Muslim women and what they are as a wife before even considering marriage, let alone finding a suitable future husband. Know your rights! Also.. know your husbands rights. Relationships are a two-way street, ideally, you should both know the others rights as well as your own.
