I feel like this morning I woke up out of a dream. One I havent - TopicsExpress

I feel like this morning I woke up out of a dream. One I havent had since I was a kid. My mom loved baseball and actually taught my brother and I how to play. The year we won the World Series I was only 13 and my mom took us to almost every daytime game that year. It was exciting because the Royals were always good. Only 2 teams made it from the A.L. back then and we went to the playoffs in 76, 77, 78, 80 (World Series), 81, 84 and 85 (World Series Champs) and the years we didnt we were in the hunt till the end. I was too young to realize how rare and special that was but most of all how fragile it would become. I never could have imagined how screwed up baseball would become on the business side of things and how pathetic of an organization we would grow into. Its been difficult to keep my families interest in baseball the past 20 years due to their lack of success. The glory years that I would speak of and how ridiculously exciting playoff baseball is was starting to become an unattainable goal, one not even worth dreaming over, the shadow they had cast on our hearts was too dark and painful. Frustration and apathy are a dangerous combination when your heart is 21 years old like D.j. Hink or 17 like Josh Hink and youve never experienced winning or youre Bridget Stamper Hink and you werent allowed to root for the Royals because your mom was a Cardinal fan! But this morning........the sun is shining, the birds are chirping off my back deck and my dream was REAL! Royals are in the World Series and everyone is excited and I feel vindicated! All those years of spring baseball and eternal hope... mean something now. My kids understand why I was so vigilant about keeping the faith. Thank you Dayton Moore for not only getting awesome players but ones that are soooo likable and easy to root for. Thank you mom, Karon Hink for loving baseball and sharing it with Jim Hink and I and thank you... you ridiculously clutch Royals players for illuminating this city and setting our heart on fire once again!!! Now lets go Royals, 4 more wins...I have a tattoo coming with your name on it!!
