I feel like this should be the anthem of my generation and the ones to come. Nowhere Kids kind of sums us up; we have no sense of direction. Were questioning this system were thrown into - a system of working for one corporation to make money that we give to other corporations - and trying to figure out what exactly were trying to accomplish from it all. Were not interested in going to school, working, retiring, and dying. Were not interested in going to wars for greedy politicians. Were not interested in giving up our freedoms because of political agendas. There was a time where if you were willing to work hard, you were going to be paid accordingly. But then politicians stressed the importance of college and white-collar jobs, and away went manufacturing. Why did they stress white-collar jobs in the first place? Seems a little curious that a shift happened shortly after the white-collar push; a shift that sent the blue-collar manufacturing jobs out of the country. That lead to corporations making even more money, and now the US has the largest gap between what CEOs make and what the average employees are paid in the world. They ultimately benefited, we did not. Coincidence? Employees were once treated as if they were doing a favor for the the companies by working for them; now were treated as if the companies are doing favors for us. Were basically treated like cattle. We work hard for little profit, and if we protest, were given the ax. Its a broken system, and we know it. Most are unaware that they even know it. We see people take advantage of welfare and people committing crimes. Do we ask why they take that path? Are the people taking advantage of welfare lazy, or are the passively protesting the system because the system failed them? Are the people committing crimes doing so because theyre simply bad people, or were they lead down that path because the system failed them? Happy people try to live honest lives. An unacceptable number of people are unhappy. My generation is unhappy. But changes are happening, slowly. The voices of our generations are growing. I may not see the changes manifest in my lifetime, but Ill at least see the start of it. Its going to take time, perhaps many generations, but it will happen and it will be significant. To the peers of my generation, hang in there. Were amidst a storm and things are going to be rough for a while. But it will be worth it. Dont give up, dont give in. Keep pressing forward.
