I feel sick. My husband left me with debts of £12,000 and no means of paying them. After struggling for a year, I managed to negotiate a settlement of £5 a month and no further interest. In the intervening years this debt has been passed from company to company, each demanding full and immediate payment. All of them, once I rang up, accepted the current situation. Today it happened again. This one wants me to do an online assessment of my ability to pay. Thing is, you know how these things are done. We juggle the figures until they show that we have nothing. I am worried that once I enter anything this will go on a permanent record which I will be unable to undo. Life is hard, life is tough, I have very little spare cash and what I have I want to save for the small pleasures I have - materials for my writing - treats for my dog - and one holiday a year. Any advice?
