I feel so insanely blessed to have known Eric for as long as I did and today I am going to celebrate his life by sharing a memory that helps me when I feel I am at my lowest. It was the summer of 2001, and like most summers I would be staying at Eric’s grandparents’ house while my parents worked. We would usually be bickering like siblings and driving Mrs. Susie crazy about silly things, but a good percent of the time we would be building forts, playing video games or my favorite- having Garth Brooks concerts in the middle of the living room. See, Eric was really into country music and my favorite memories are when he would get his cowboy boots and hat on after we’d clear the living room and he would put on some of the best impromptu concerts any 9 year old could. Most of the time it was for an empty couch or for Mrs. Susie, but the smile that was on his face could light up the room. It’s these little moments that help me when I feel like my world is closing in, so today I will remember that bright smiling face and listen to some Garth Brooks as if he was still here today signing along.
